Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently reassured that the extension of the Metro rail from Mindspace junction to the Financial District was on track and there were no plans to cancel it. This has come as a major relief to many working professionals, who grapple with daily traffic challenges in the IT corridor.
“For those of us who travel the stretch from Mindspace junction to the Financial District, including Wipro Circle, Gachibowli and Waverock, the extension will be a saviour. We are currently relying on autos, buses or personal transport due to the absence of metro connectivity,” said Nagesh Nalla, who works in an IT firm.
Despite the positive reactions, there is also a cohort of voices expressing disappointment over the limited scope of the Metro Rail expansion. Residents from Malkajgiri, Trimulgherry, Sainikpuri and Yapral feel neglected, considering that a Metro connection in their vicinity would alleviate their commuting problems.
A Sainikpuri resident, Martina Navaneeta, hoped for a Metro project, emphasising the area’s burgeoning growth. “I was hoping for a Metro project towards this side given that it is fast emerging as the new Jubilee Hills. Business and residential spaces are growing by the day here,” she said.
A Yapral-based media professional Shikha D., shared her struggles commuting to Khairatabad for work on a two-wheeler, citing serious back-pain and a lack of feasible alternatives. “I have developed serious back pain. I have no other transport alternative to reach my workplace on time,” she explained.
Sugandh Rakha argued that the Hyderabad Metro should strategically prioritise connecting major workplaces like Madhapur-Hitec City and Gachibowli-Financial District to residential hubs like KPHB and Secunderabad. He added that this approach would encourage daily commuters to opt for the Metro Rail, reducing reliance on private vehicles and subsequently easing traffic congestion.
“A comprehensive approach is crucial, with upcoming job centers like Pharmacity and Electronic City requiring integration into the Metro”s expansion plans,” he said.
This foresighted approach not only enhances transportation infrastructure but also guides the city's growth, fostering a balanced and sustainable urban development, he said.
