E-Pos machines to be set up at 60 ration shops in Karunagappally

The ration weighing machine will be interlinked with the E-Pos machine to prevent tampering or manipulation of data.

Thiruvananthapuram: The electronic point of sale (E-Pos) machines aimed at ensuring the transparency of public distribution system will be installed at 60 ration shops in Karunagappally on Saturday.

Mr Babychen Mukkadan, national general secretary, All-India Ration Dealers Association, told Deccan Chronicle that the machines will be installed at all ration shops by February to prevent the pilferage of ration items.

The new devices will come with many features, including fingerprinting of the ration shop owner for biometric verification, he said.

The delay in implementing the E-Pos machines was because the state unit of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) could not manufacture them on a mass scale. Hence, the service of the Telangana NIC was also used to produce them, sources said.

The ration weighing machine will be interlinked with the E-Pos machine to prevent tampering or manipulation of data. The real-time sale of ration items will be updated through the E-Pos linkages.
