Legislature, Secretariat get a clean and spruce up ahead of new govt formation

Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislature complex, as well as the Secretariat, are getting a spring clean-up with a new government set to take charge soon, along with the new Assembly to be constituted in the next few days.

The Legislature complex is getting a makeover of sorts amidst a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of paint on all the buildings. “Work began on November 14, and is expected to end by the end of this week,” a Legislature official said.

“This is something that is done every five years after elections and a new government takes its place. Work on cleaning and painting the Assembly hall where MLAs meet is completed and work is going on in the rest of the building, as well as in the rest of the complex,” the official said.

As part of the spruce up, all the railings have been painted afresh getting a coat of green, while the buildings, both inside and outside, are being painted in white, the colour of the buildings. The large arched gates that lead into the complex are being painted in a light shade of yellow, even as trunks of trees in the complex too have received bands of white and rust-coloured paints.

“The work usually takes about 20 days or so if we engage at least 30 to 40 persons every day. But the work is delicate as the buildings are old and pieces keep falling off if we are not careful or put too much pressure on some of the plaster works on the domes, or elsewhere,” an official supervising the spruce-up operations said.

At the Secretariat, officials began making preparations for the new Congress-led government and as part of the process, have started taking out name plates of former BRS ministers. They have removed the nameplate of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao from the CM’s office on the sixth floor.

Also removed were the nameplates of officials who worked with Chandrashekar Rao in his office during his 10-year tenure, as well as those of all officers on special duty who were appointed by the BRS government in the past.
