Governor P Sathasivam bowled over by farm products
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor P. Sathasivam who comes from an agrarian background was bowled over by the value added products made from jackfruit, mushroom, coconut etc. He went around the stalls set up at Sooryakanthi grounds at Kanakakunnu Palace coinciding with VAIGA – 2016 Value Addition for Income Generation in Agriculture, an international workshop and exhibition on agro processing and value addition. Mr Sathasivam opined that there is ample scope for value added products not only within the state, but across the country and said that such exhibitions could be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and in other states as well.
“Kerala’s indigenous products should be inculcated into the peoples’ menu which would create a healthy environment. The farmers are happy now as until now they had a fear on what to do with surplus products,” he said. Though it was the Governor who inaugurated VAIGA – 2016 on Thursday, he could visit over 150 stalls only on Saturday. He was accompanied by his wife Saraswathy and other family members.
