Visakhapatnam: Barely a week after Cyclone Kyant petered out, another cyclone is brewing in the southwest Bay of Bengal, which is currently in the form of a depression. However, as per current predictions, it could move away from the state as it gathers pace.
The weather system was on Thursday located about 570 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 750 km south of Paradip and 1,020 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
As per the IMD’s predictions, the system would move northwestwards in the direction of AP in the next 24 hours before turning towards West Bengal and Bangladesh coast during the subsequent 48 hours. It is very likely to intensify into a deep depression by Friday and into a cyclonic storm.
“Moderate rains will occur at a few places over AP in the next few days. Fishermen are advised to not venture into the sea in the next 24 hours. Squally winds reaching a speed of 40-50 km, gusting to 60 kmph, will prevail along and off north coastal AP on Friday,” said an official at the Cyclone Warning Centre, Visakhapatnam.
Distant cautionary signal-I was hoisted at all the major ports of the state.
Cloudy weather with some spells of rain and high winds were observed in parts of north coastal AP on Thursday. Isolated rains occurred. Tada of Nellore got 3 cm rain, Guduru 2 cm, Sullurpeta 2 cm, Satyavedu 2 cm and Srikalahasti 2 cm.
