All accused in Thulasidasan Pillai murder acquitted

Kottayam court maintains prosecution failed to prove case beyond doubt

Kottayam: The Kottayam additional district sessions court on Thursday acquitted all the eight accused in the murder of Thulasidasan Pillai maintaining that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond doubt. The prosecution case is that Pillai, a businessman and native of Thrikkodithanam near Changanassery, was murdered in February 2006 by his wife Leelamany, Thrikkodithanam Leela Bhavan, by hiring the services of a quotation gang.

Leelamany is the eighth accused in the case. Shajudeen of Fathimapuram, Shameer of Peeru-medu Karadikuzhy, Nira-ppel Prasad of Mandiram, Nasar of Pee Sinij of Peerumedu Aanthaparampil, Najeeb of Fathimapuram, P. Sathya of Nalukody Ambithazhey and Sinoj of Changanassery Puthuparampil were the other accused.

They allegedly murdered Pillai who was travelling on a bike through the Changanassery– Mallappally route around 8.30 p.m. on February 4, 2006. According to the prosecution, Leelamany gave the quotation to eliminate her husband who opposed her illicit relationships and to get his assets worth crores of rupees. The couple have two children. Leelamany had given Rs 15 lakh as remuneration to the quotation gang.
