Munugode bypoll boosts voter enrolment

HYDERABAD: Munugode assembly constituency has witnessed a sharp increase in new voter enrolment for the by-election scheduled for the seat on November 3. The ruling TRS and the opposition BJP and Congress are all set for a 'do-or-die' battle there.

During the polls in December 2018, the total voters in the constituency were 1,98,843. The figure has jumped to 2,27,265 by September 30, an increase of 28,442 voters and the process of voter enlistment would continue till October 4.

The verification of the new applications will be done by October 13 and the new voters list will be released on October 14, which is also the last date for nominations.

The three major parties vied with each other in enrolling new voters for this high-stakes electoral battle.

Local leaders and cadres of all the three parties were virtually on a hunt to find new voters, going after those who have migrated to other towns and cities in search of livelihood, urging them to come enroll their names in this constituency. The parties even arranged transport facilities for such voters to come to Munugode and submit their applications in the MRO offices.

While the ruling TRS is keen on grabbing the seat it won in 2014 but lost to the Congress in 2018, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to fly the saffron flag in this constituency for the first time. The Congress has stepped up its efforts to retain the seat that it had won with a handsome majority.

Munugode constituency has seven mandals. Of them, Choutuppal has the highest number of 55,942 voters. This is followed by Narayanapuram (34,089), Munugode (33,567), Nampally (31,700), Chandur (31,505), Marriguda (26,797) and the newly-created Gattuppal mandal (13,668).

There would be 68 polling booths in Chotuppal, 54 in Narayanapuram, 44 in Munugode, 40 in Chandur, 33 in Marriguda, 43 in Nampally and 14 in Gattuppal.
