OU contract staff defy transfer orders
Hyderabad: Assistant professors of Osmania University working on contract, who had been transferred by the Vice Chancellor on September 2, continue to work in the same colleges, as the orders were not issued through proper procedure.
A total of 238 of them who have been transferred approached the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (HRC) on September 18. The HRC slapped a notice on Osmania University, stating, “How can the principals without proper proceeding transfer these lecturers?” The hearing is scheduled on October 20, according to A. Srinivas, one of the lecturers.
“October salaries are not yet deposited in our accounts. We are not against transfers, but in this case, the procedure is all tampered that will land our jobs in danger. Most of these lecturers have been working here for the past two decades, hoping that their posts would be regularised some day,” he said.
Assistant professors working in OU constituent colleges — Women’s College, Koti, PG Science College, Saifabad, PG College, Secunderabad, Nizam College, Arts, Law, and University College of Science on the OU campus were transferred.
One of the lecturers on condition of anonymity said, “Vice Chancellor is asking us to take back the complaint lodged with the HRC and accept the transfer. Believing his words, how can we put our jobs at stake? We need proper orders.”
OU Vice-Chancellor Prof D. Ravinder said, “Executive committee of Osmania University passed a resolution that every contract employee has to execute the orders given by the concerned principals, and wherever work is allotted, they should report. The resolution will be an evident document for these transferred lecturers to accept the postings.”
