Nirmal Krishna chit fund scam: Nirmalan fails to appear

Police has failed to trace the whereabouts of Nirmalan and his wife.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A joint team of Tamil Nadu and Kerala police maintained vigil at Vanchioyoor court premises here on Tuesday in view of suspicions that the key accused in the Nirmal Krishna financial scam, Nirmalan K, may surrender before a court. But he did not turn up. But there were reports that since the criminal case against him was registered at a special court in Tamil Nadu, the accused may not be able to surrender here.

Police sources said that Nirmalan, along with his family, were at Guruvayur on September 9. However, the whereabouts of Nirmalan and his wife thereafter could not be tracked by the police though it was suspected that he would be in a hideout in Karanataka or Maharashtra. Police were also learnt to have quizzed his daughter, who is doing final year MBBS at a private medical college in Thiruvananthapuram, and his son, who is studying at Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, investors with the firm alleged that it was just an eyewash by the police because of the protest of the victims of the Rs 2000 crore worth fraud. “The Tamil Nadu police was even trying to suppress our agitations by imposing prohibitory orders,” said an investor. The Tamil Nadu and Kerala police had already carried out searches at Nirmalan's house at Jagathay which was lying closed for quite some time. His sister was staying at an apartment owned by him at Aakkulam. But it was also lying vacant since September 20.
