Scrutiny of nominations today for local body polls
Chennai: Independents and DMK candidates thronged municipal offices on Monday, the last day of nomination for local body polls. More than 3,50,000 nominations are to be scrutinised on Tuesday. Till Saturday, about 2.5 lakh nominations were received across TN and the last day witnessed daylong submissions of nomination papers by the aspirants.
Meanwhile, state election commission on Monday appointed 35 officers as state poll observers. The list includes 27 IAS and 8 district revenue officers as poll observers and they would be assuming charge in the districts designated for them on Tuesday, state election commissioner said in a official communiqué on Monday. The state election commission has also invited all recognised political parties for an all-party meeting on Tuesday at its’ headquarters here.
Earlier in the day, Tiruvallur collector A Sundaravalli conducted a review meeting with the police and revenue officials on the poll arrangements and the surveillance requirements to be in place for all sensitive booths in the district.
