THIRUVNANTHAPURAM: CPM state leadership has disapproved of the gherao of Payyannur police station led by Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan. Jayarajan along with other party workers had gheraoed the police station last month in protest against the arrest of DYFI leader Nandakumar against whom KAPA was also invoked . He was held in connection with the murder of BMS leader Ramachandran.
The CPM district secretary had used a mike while addressing the protesters inside the police station premises. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had pointed out that ghearoing police stations during LDF rule should be avoided as it would encourage others to hold similar action elsewhere. While admitting the lapse on his part, Jayarajan also explained the reasons behind the protest. However, the party felt that the leadership should stay away from such protests during LDF rule as it could set a wrong precedent.
