Speech lands MLA Parakkal Abdulla in soup
KOZHIKODE: A case was registered against Kuttiady MLA Parakkal Abdulla on Saturday by Nadapuram police, based on his speech in Dubai two weeks ago. Rural SP N. Vijayakumar said that it was possible to register a case against an Indian citizen according to the IPC, even if he commits a crime outside the country. “His language was provocative and it went viral on social media. It is not mandatory that the case can be registered only if the person was physically present in the country,” said the SP.
The case was registered under IPC 505 (1) b (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public). The MLA had allegedly said that the IUML was not afraid to retaliate to the killers of Muhammed Aslam or Nazarudheen, both of whom were IUML workers and killed due to political rivalry.
He had added that the party was not resorting to killing since they wanted to restore peace in the region. The MLA said that he would stand by his speech and the CPM was overreacting over the defeat of their candidate to him in the Assembly election. He added that his speech was misrepresented and there was nothing against the CPM.
