Repeal Sedition Act: HS Doreswamy to Karnataka govt
BENGALURU: Former minister Prof B.K. Chandrashekar and freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy on Saturday requested the state government to convene a special session of legislature and adopt unanimous resolution to strike off the sedition Act.
They told the media here the Act was being misused to fix individuals and organisations for no fault of theirs, Amnesty International (India) being the latest example.
Members of ABVP were trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, and organised protests in several cities including Bengaluru. It was unwarranted for leaders of BJP to intervene in the issue and express their support to ABVP.
“We have seen the video footage and no one has raised anti- Indian army slogans. How does raising slogans against the army amount to treason? The cops slapped charges of sedition because of pressure from the saffron brigade,” he added.
