Kerala University gets Rs 7.25 crore Central grant
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University has got Rs 7.25 crore in grants under the Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) programme of the department of science and technology (DST) of the Union government. The funds under the PURSE scheme are granted to select universities across the country considering their research activities for improving infrastructure for scientific development.
Kerala University was one among the 30 in the country chosen for the PURSE scheme, said a statement from the university, which had sanctioned Rs 9 crore under its first phase for 2011-2015. It can use the amount for purchasing ultra modern scientific equipment and for improving the lab facilities in various departments. The PURSE scheme provides substantive research grants to universities based on scientific publications in science citation indexed journals through SCOPUS international database for ten years.
The PURSE programme will provide support to performing universities across the country, essentially for research manpower cost, augmentation of equipment and computational facilities, research consumables, the organisation of scientific conferences or workshops, travel and maintenance of the facilities. DST selected the university for the PURSE award based on an independent study undertaken by DST for producing quality research output in the form of publications.
