Inspired by Mother Teresa's work: Jayalalithaa
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday hailed the canonization of Mother Teresa and said it is a matter of great pride for India. She pointed out that Mother Teresa Women’s University, established in 1984 in Tamil Nadu, continues to serve the cause of women's education with the sustained support of the state government.
She said her had taken inspiration from the work of Mother Teresa and striven to provide compassionate governance in the state and focus on the most vulnerable and deprived people through a large number of schemes designed for their welfare.
The Chief Minister recalled that she was truly blessed to receive Mother Teresa at her home on January 20, 1994, and her presence at the state function on the occasion of the International Women's Day on March 9, 1994, remained a memorable event in her life.
Jayalalithaa said she continued to draw sustenance for her public service from the life and work of Mother Teresa. "The canonization of Mother Teresa will again highlight the work that she has done amongst the poor and the downtrodden and those who had no one to turn to. Her life and work has inspired many and as Saint Teresa, she will continue to inspire many, many more.
The spirit of compassion and selfless service to the most unfortunate, the sick, the dying and the destitute will be greatly bolstered through keeping alive the memory of this great soul".
