Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE), Perambalur collector and other authorities to permit Dalits to offer worship in the Sri Maha Mariyamman Temple at Pasumbalur village.
Justice M. Sathyanarayanan, before whom a petition from K. Subramani, Pasumbalur, came up for hearing, said "This court directs the authorities concerned to ensure that the people belonging to the Scheduled Caste Community are allowed to enter the temple and worship the presiding deity in connection with the festival to be held till Setp. 16, 2016." The petitioner sought a directive to authorities to allow Dalits to worship in the temple.
