Supreme Court fiat reflects CM Pinarayi Vijayan's concerns

Pinarayi Vijayan had expressed the fear that condition of Karnataka Police was to prevent Maudany from visiting Kerala.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Supreme Court on Thursday raised the same concerns which chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had pointed out in connection with PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani’s visit to Kerala to attend his son’s marriage. The chief minister had expressed the fear that condition Karnataka Police was imposing huge amount for security was to prevent Madani from visiting Kerala. Pinarayi had cautioned that the stringent conditions imposed by Karnataka could even render irrelevant, the apex court verdict given on humanitarian grounds.

"Karnataka police had demanded Rs 14.29 lakh for providing security to Madani during his visit to Kerala. It is suspected that the motive behind imposing such a huge amount is to block his visit," the chief minister said. Meanwhile, PDP leader Poonthura Siraj said that the details of Madani’s visit would be worked out after the final verdict of Supreme Court on Friday. “After the apex court gives its verdict, the certified copy of the order will have to be provided to Bengaluru city police commissioner. He will then decide the number of security persons to be deployed for Madani’s vist. All other logistics including flight tickets, food and accommodation have to be arranged subsequently," he said.

“We hope Madani will be able to attend the marriage ceremony to be held at Thalassery town hall on August 9. The public reception will held at Kollam Town Hall. Meanwhile, the apex court has also pointed out that Kerala Government need not provide full security to Madani. Since he is in custody of Karnataka police, the latter should take that responsibility. However, Kerala could provide additional security over and above.
