Rehab for burns survivors in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: The Indian Medical Association Kozhikode chapter in association with Burn Survivors Mission Saviour (BSMS) is all set to launch a rehabilitation programme for burn survivors in the district. To identify the burn survivors in the District, the IMA and BSMS representatives conducted various surveys and medical camps for such victims. The initiative aims at offering a wide range of services to burn survivors that are mostly identified as women in the District, for their physical, psychological and social rehabilitation.

The project also involves counseling, emergency medicines and care including providing attendants or food. The initiative has also taken up the responsibility of the rehabilitation of the survivors and also helps them find suitable occupation of their taste and interests.

Talking about the initiative IMA President Dr PN Ajitha said, “We have a lot of burn survivors in the District who are struggling with their treatment and also take care of their family. Serious burn accidents caused by fire, acid, hot oil and water cause severe damage to tissues and the victims need extreme care and rehabilitation”. Recently a survey was conducted to identify burn survivors at Kozhikode and a medical camp was also conducted.
