THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A preliminary probe into the alleged derogatory remarks by former state police chief T. P. Senkumar about the actor abducted and raped in Kochi has found he could not be “held legally liable.” A ‘factual report’ Thiruvananthapuram city deputy commissioner P.N. Ramesh Kumar submitted says Mr Senkumar made the controversial remarks in a phone conversation and it was recorded and published by the weekly without his permission.
Moreover, he also said the reporter recorded the interview on his mobile phone without his consent. However, the journalist maintained that he recorded the conversation with Mr Senkumar’s consent. Mr Kumar submitted the report to IG Thiruvananthapuram-range Manoj Abraham, who forwarded it to state police chief Loknath Behera.
Mr Behera might be seeking further legal opinion on whether Mr Senkumar could be held liable for the remarks about the actor or the weekly reporter should be responsible for recording a private conversation and making it public without his consent. The investigation was initiated on a complaint by Women in Cinema Collective.
