Furore over officials' absence
Chennai: DMK deputy leader in the Assembly Duraimurugan sought to raise an issue of disciplinary action against the government officials for not being present in the Assembly House when the demand for energy department was taken up on Wednesday morning. He also objected to the Speaker’s decision to install TV in the Cabinet room to relay the Assembly proceedings to the officials.
A verbal duel that ensued between the Opposition and Speaker culminated in the DMK members staging a walkout from the Assembly House accompanied by the Congress legislators.
Mr Duraimurugan sprang a surprise by drawing the Speaker P. Dhanapal’s attention to the absence of department heads when state power minister P. Thangamani was replying to the Opposition members. Demanding the Speaker to summon the officials he said this was “an insult” to the House.
