Indian Navy Sailor Missing From Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: A sailor from the Indian Navy went missing on Sunday evening, according to Naval personnel and local police.

Identified as Dheeraj Kumar, 28, he has been serving in Indian Navy as a junior sailor.

Kumar joined the Indian Navy on February 10, 2014 and on posting he came to
Vizag in January this year. He is from Punjab and is posted at INS Sindhukesari
in Visakhapatnam and was residing in bachelor housing at INS Virbahu.

Navy officials at 4.36 pm on Sunday found that Dheeraj Kumar went out from his
residence INS Virbahu and did not return. Initially, Navy officials searched for
him and did necessary inquiries at all possible places but all went in vain.

Then INS Sindhukesari chief registered a police complaint at Malkapuram police
station.

Police registered a missing complaint and started an investigation. Police found Kumar’s last footprint at Tuni bypass road. He did make calls to his family
members from Tuni bypass road. After that, his phone was switched off. Kumar’s
family members are living in Chack Manahasa village in Pathankot district in
Punjab.

According to a preliminary investigation by the police, Dheeraj Kumar was facing some financial troubles. He did some investments here and there and incurred losses.

Kumar used to call his family members and share his suicidal tendencies with
them. Malkapuram police intensified their search for Kumar based on the CCTV
video clip from Tuni bypass road.
