Residents dump garbage in Mir Alam lake

The town planning and irrigation wing of GHMC has been instructed to take action against the violators.

Hyderabad: Residents living in the neighbourhood of Mir Alam Lake have been found dumping their waste in the lake. In an inspection drive carried out by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation officials, it was found that the compound walls had been broken by the residents at several places.

The town planning and irrigation wing of GHMC has been instructed to take action against the violators.

The GHMC has started the project to fence the city lakes. According to GHMC officials, so far, 68 out of 185 identified lakes have been fenced.

Mir Alam Lake, situated besides Nehru Zoological Park, used to be spread over 600 acres but because of continuous dumping of garbage, encroachments and building of structures, the area has been reduced by half. Mr Ishtiyaq Shareef, a city-based lake conservator said, “Rampant garbage dumping by residents and the small scale industries situated adjacent to the lake are the primary contributors to the slow death of the lake.” Kapra Lake, Sainikpuri and Ramakrishnapuram Lake, Nacharam are also facing the effect of negligence.
