Underground Maoist leader Anand dead

atakam Sudarsshan alias Anand was underground for 48 years

HYDERABAD: Maoists politburo member Katakam Sudarsshan alias Anand, who was underground for 48 years, died on May 31, according to a release issued by left-wing extremist organisation on Sunday.

Sudarshan was from Bellampalli in the Adilabad district. He had a diploma in mining and was attracted towards radicalisation movements in his college days.

Sudarshan joined the CPI-ML and participated in several programmes in 1978. In 1981, after the Indravelli police firing, in which 13 Gond tribals were killed according to official figures, Sudarshan went underground and shifted to the Dandakaranya region. He formed special guerrilla teams, trained them and dispatched teams to Gadchiroli.

Sudarshan also worked as the party’s north Telangana special zonal committee secretary in 1995 and was appointed politburo member.
