Police under pressure from govt: Former TS DGP

HYDERABAD: Former DGP and BJP leader T. Krishna Prasad flayed the state government for reducing the state police department to an inefficient wing. Police officers were under tremendous pressure from BRS leaders and unable to discharge their duties, he said.

The undivided AP police was considered among the best in the country, he said.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Prasad said that police officials were being forced to make illegal arrests and to tap phones of political opponents. Fake currency and land grabbing cases are increasing at an alarming rate but the police where unable to concentrate on law and order, he said. Although the government was overburdening constables and home guards, it has failed to resolve their problems.

The former top cop expressed concern at the reported return of Maoists in the undivided Warangal and Khammam districts. Prasad demanded that the government declare the cash seized after gangster Nayeem’s encounter. He said that the state has become a safe haven for several mafias and terror operatives.
