Archdiocese conducts convention for altar servers

HYDERABAD: Over 850 boys and girls thronged St. Mary’s school in Secunderabad for the first-of-its-kind, ‘Altar servers’ convention of Archdiocese of Hyderabad here on Saturday. Many participants were delighted at being part of the convention.

This is an opportunity to meet servers for all other parishes, and exchange their views and ideas. As most of the priests were also altar servers in their early years, these children also expressed their keenness to become priests and nuns. They were also inspired by the talks delivered by various speakers, including Y. Balashowry, vicar-general.

The purpose of the convention was to highlight the importance of altar servers and to make them realise their role in the church and in all liturgical celebrations.

According Fr Raju Alex, deputy secretary of Telugu Catholic Bishops Council, “Altar Servers benefited from the various talks and programmes that were organised for them. I spoke on ‘Called to the joy of being an altar server’.”
