Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming monsoon season, the GHMC has issued instructions to all its officers to ensure that there is no rain-related damage to life and property. It said that the officials must conduct a quick detailed survey of dilapidated structures and forward the information to the engineering wing for a report on structural stability.
The list of all dilapidated structures in each circle with newly identified structures and addition of the balance structures carried from the previous year, must be finalised.
In case there are perilous structures in the area, advance precautionary measures must be taken, it told its officers, who have been asked to maintain vigil on alerts issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding rainfall. The reports made by the officials would be sent to the head office.
It has decided not to allow any cellar excavation during this season. In case work has already begun, it would be stopped and an inspection of safety measures in the neighbouring buildings would be taken up. If there is friction from the building owner, then action would be taken as per the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) Act.
In the case of hilly terrain like Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills, measures would be taken for vacating the inmates living in temporary structures along the retaining walls and underneath or adjoining structures in order to avoid loss of human lives in the event of a collapse due to heavy rain.
