Buy soaked paddy, CM Jagan tells officials

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the civil supplies officials to take necessary steps to purchase soaked paddy from the farmers in the state due to untimely rains.

The CM held a teleconference with the district collectors and CMO officials following untimely rainfall and its impact on crops here on Wednesday and issued orders to procure soaked paddy.

The CM called for efforts to protect the harvested grains from the rains and also to move the grains stored in paddy purchase centres, RBKs and with farmers to the godowns and other government buildings. He instructed the officials to complete enumeration of crop damage or loss at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the officials informed the CM that Rs one crore had already been allocated to each district collector as transportation expenses for the movement of grains. They also told the CM that once the rains subside, they would distribute seeds to the farmers who suffered loss to help them grow crops. The CM asked the officials to take measures to release input subsidy to the affected farmers.

The officials briefed the CM that they were taking steps to educate the farmers about precautions to be taken to help protect crops from being affected in the rains and also to rope in Markfed officials to purchase corn in the fields.
