Ticket fare on AC compartments of MMTS slashed

Hyderabad: Providing twin relief, South Central Railway on Tuesday halved the ticket fare on AC compatments of the Multi Model Transport System (MMTS). The offer came in the middle of a very hot summer, and bucked the trend of rising fares and prices elsewhere.

The fare cut will come into effect on May 5. The fare in the general compartments starts at Rs 5.

Passengers can now ride 10 km in the AC class for Rs 25; at the top end of the scale a journey of 45 km in the AC compartment of an MMTS train will cost Rs 90.

Incidentally, the Metro Rail charges Rs 25 km for 10 km; over longer distances the Metro becomes progressively cheaper, and the maximum price is Rs 60 for more than 26 km of travel.

The MMTS operates 86 services on the Falaknuma, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Lingampalli and Ramachandrapuram routes with 29 stations.
