Chennai: In a move to curb the delay in verifying PAN number while purchasing properties, the registration department had introduced real-time verification process in the departmental portal.
According to the circular issued by J. Kumargurubaran, IG of registration, purchasers and sellers of property worth Rs 10 lakh and more have to provide their PAN details. “Hitherto, the sub-registrars are confined to checking the numbers only. They could not be able to check the veracity,” the circular said.
With the new online registration process (Star 2.0) being rolled out recently, the department had made provisions to check the veracity of PAN submitted by both parties, in real-time. “Now the department website has been integrated with NSLD website. When the concerned officers enter the PAN, the real-time verification would help them in ascertaining the veracity of the details,” a senior official said.
Meanwhile, the top officials hinted that the department would take many initiatives to bring in many changes in the registration system. “With the new online process being introduced, we are carefully taking our steps in developing the portal. Now the registration process has been stabilised and we are going to make several positive changes,” the official added.
