Thiruvananthapuram: Woman tries to immolate self, official

According to officials, Suja has been frequenting the office for the last six months to obtain clearance in tax pertaining to her property at Kovalam.

Wednesday after a 45-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on her body.

Suja, a housewife from Kovalam also attempted to kill the clerk Abhilash by pouring kerosene on his body at around 4.30 pm at the revenue section of the office.

The Fort police have registered a case based on the statements of the victim.

According to officials, Suja has been frequenting the office for the last six months to obtain clearance in tax pertaining to her property at Kovalam. Abhilash had asked for the original title deed of the property for the clearance.

However, the woman had not submitted these documents, revenue officials said.

When she approached Abhilash on Wednesday, she poured the kerosene that she was holding on her body and the rest on Abhilash’s body and tried to set fire using a matchbox.

Others present in the office overpowered her before handing her over to the police. She was later taken to the General hospital. Abhilash was also taken to the hospital.

The police will take action against her after recording the statements of the woman and the victim.
