ERODE: A leopard killed a goat at a village near Sathyamangalam, triggering panic among the villagers on Tuesday.
The incident was reported at the Puliamkombai village in Sathyamangalam forest range. The goat, at the house of local Vadivel’ was attacked by the carnivore in the early hours of Tuesday. Vadivel, who rushed out of home on hearing dogs’ barking, was shocked to found a leopard was taking away the carcass of the goat.
The villagers went in search of the surrounding areas and found the half-eaten carcass in remote place. On information, the forest officials reached the spot and conducted inquiry. According to the local residents, it was a third incident of leopard attack. Previously, the leopard had attacked five goats of Kuppusamy and such attacks were increasing recently.
The latest leopard attack has heightened villagers’ anxieties as most of them depend on cattle rearing for a livelihood.
