Kochi: Bringing a respite to the scorching summer heat, many areas in the district received moderate to heavy summer rains on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
Eastern parts have been receiving good summer rains with thunderstorm for the last couple of days. Though the sudden rains caused water-logging in many places in the city, the cool showers brought much relief for the city residents who have been reeling under the sweltering weather.
The rain lasted for more than two hours flooding the low-lying areas and leaving pedestrians and two-wheeler riders stranded. Since the city corporation has not completed the pre-monsoon cleaning works, the drains and canals overflowed causing water-logging.
Mets say the summer showers will continue for next couple of days in the district.
The torrential downpour, heavy wind and thunderstorm left behind a trail of destruction in eastern parts with power disruptions and uprooting of trees.
With the intermittent spells of summer showers, the corporation has accelerated the road and drain maintenance and pre-monsoon cleaning works.
