Kasargod collector bid to settle foul talk row

CDPO-VP tiff over rude behaviour; woman officer alleges outraging her modesty.

Kasargod: District collector K. Jeevan Babu has intervened in the row between the Parippa child development project officer Ann Darly Vargeese and Kallar grama panchayat vice-president T.K. Narayanan which has been simmering for some time now.

Both had filed complaints against each other for rude behaviour and the police has registered a case also. According to the complaint of Ms Ann Darly Vargeese, Mr Narayanan had outraged her modesty by using abusive language over phone.

The issue broke out over letting the participation of Anganwadi teachers according to the CDPO’s schedule or in the ‘Oorukootam’ meeting convened by the panchayat the same day. The squabble resulted in an exchange of heated words and filing of complaints. Ms Vargeese filed a complaint with Rajapuram police on April 25 and the next day, Mr Narayanan with the district collector against each other over the same charges.

According to Rajapuram police, a case was charged against Mr Narayanan for using obscene words and for criminal intimidation. The district collector forwarded his complaint to the social justice department officer for inquiry and, according to sources, the report has been ready.

The collector said that he was waiting for the report. “I had met the DCPO and she had conveyed the issues in detail,” he said. According to sources close to the CDPO, the actual issue was the termination of an Anganwadi worker by Ms Vargeese as she found that the worker was appointed flouting rules.

The worker is the relative of a local Congress leader and it irked the Congress ruling Kallar panchayat and its vice- president. But, Mr Narayanan has denied all the allegations.
