Muttom residents seek Kochi Metro Rail Ltd jobs

Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath inaugurated the protest march conducted by Youth Congress.

Kochi: The local residents in and around Muttom on Monday held a protest march demanding that they should be given jobs in the Muttom Yard facility of the Kochi Metro. Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath inaugurated the protest march conducted by Youth Congress from Taikavu Junction to the yard facility at 11.30 am. “Many people are there who have handed over land. We demand that they should be considered for jobs in the facility similar to the CIAL-model. We’ll submit a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) Managing director Elias George,” Anwar Sadath MLA said.

K K Sivanandan, a resident of Choornikkara panchayat, said the KMRL authorities and the district collector had agreed in 2015 to consider the local residents for unskilled jobs, however, the metro authorities “ignored” them and went ahead to give jobs to Kudumbashree members. When contacted, a KMRL spokesperson, however, said the local residents are raising such a demand for the first time and that the majority of the unskilled jobs have already handed out to Kudumbashree workers.
