Kerala University ranks a poor 47th
Kochi: There are no institutions from the state in the top ten slots in the National Institutional Ranking Framework introduced by the Ministry of Human Resources Development. But a number of Kerala colleges have figured in first 100 in the ranking for colleges introduced this year. In the first overall ranking and second sector-wise ranking since its introduction on September 29, 2015, IISc-Bangalore is numero uno, IIT-Chennai second, IIT-Mumbai third, IIT-Kharagpur fourth, IIT-Delhi fifth, JNU- Delhi sixth, IIT-Kanpur, seventh, IIT-Guwahati eighth, IIT-Roorkee ninth and Banaras Hindu University tenth Anna University is at 13th position, University of Hyderabad at 14th and Amrita Viswa Vidyapeedom, Coimbatore at 16th. From Kerala, Kerala University (47th rank) and Indian Institute of Space Science Technology (IISST), Thiruvananthapuram, ( 56th) are the only two institutions to figure among the top 100 in the country. Cusat is at 106th rank overall, IISER at 117th , MGU at 124th and KVASU at 172th which figure from Kerala among the top 200 institutions in the country.
In the category of engineering institutions, IITs Madras, Bombay, Kharagpur, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati are in the top seven slots followed by Anna and Jadavpur Universities and IIT Hyderabad in the top 10 list. IISST, Thiruvananthapuram, is at 28th position among engineering institutions. NIT Calicut is at 44th position and College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram at 93rd place. At 107th is Cusat while School of Engineering of Cusat has notched 134th position. No other engineering institution figures in the top 200 ranks. In the category of universities, IISc Bangalore is on top, followed by JNU, Delhi, BHU, JN Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, Jadhavpur University, Anna University, University of Hyderabad, University of Delhi, Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham and Savithribai Phule Pune University in the top 10 list.
Kerala University is at 29th rank in this while IISST is at 35th rank. Calicut University is at 57th rank followed by MGU at 67th rank and Cusat at 86th rank. Central University, Kasargod is at 107th rank and KVASU at 126th rank. None else from the state figures in the top 200 rank list for universities. In the colleges’ list Miranda House, Delhi; Loyola, Chennai; Shri Ram College, Delhi; Bishop Heber College, Trichy; Atma Ram College, Delhi; St Xaviers Kolkata; Lady Shri Ram, Delhi; Dayal Singh, Delhi; Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Delhi; WCC, Chennai are the top ten. In the same list, Christ College (autonomous), Irinjalakkuda, is at 17th place while Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kochi, is at 25th followed by SH College, Kochi, at 28th position and St Joseph’s College, Kozhikode, at 31st and St Joseph’s College, Irinjalakkuda, at 42nd.
Mercy College, Palakkad, is at 48th position followed by Little Flower College, Guruvayur, at 49th position and MES College, Valancherry at 51st position and Vimala College, Thrissur, at 52nd position, St Mary’s College, Thrissur, at 55th position, St Teresa’s College, Kochi, at 70th position, Mannam Memorial NSS College, Kollam, at 73rd position, Assumption College, Changanassery at 84th position, Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, at 91st position. IIM Kozhikode is at 5th position nationally among management institutions and Rajagiri College of Social Sciences - School of Management is at 67th position, the only two institutions to figure among the top 75. Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Perinthalmanna is at 51st rank among pharmacy institutions nationally and is the lone one to figure in the top 75.
IISST was at 8th position last year (2016) among universities while Cusat was at 30th position, the only two to figure in the top 100. In the engineering category, Amrita School of Engineering, Karunagappally, came at 31st position while NIT, Calicut, finished 36th and Cusat at 55th. IIM Kozhikode was at 6th place among management institutions last year while Rajagiri College of Social Sciences was at 36th place, Rajagiri Business School at 37th and SCMS Kochi at 50th. Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, was at 8th place among pharmacy schools, the lone one to figure in the first 50.
