Jishnu Pranoy's campaign pressured college
Palakkad: Jishnu Pranoy, student of Nehru College, Pampady, who committed suicide in the college hostel on January 6, had been campaigning among the engineering students in and out of his college against the Kerala Technical University's decision to conduct the examination at short notice. The management had a grouse against Jishnu as his campaign had put pressure on it to take up the cause of the students.
This became clear with the appearance of some of the WhatsApp, e-mail and sound bites of the telephonic conversations of Jishnu Pranoy on Monday. Thrissur rural SP N. Vijayakumar, who is supervising the investigations, told DC that all these details had been submitted before the court and that he did not know how they came out. The messages show that Jishnu Pranoy had approached the SFI leaders and mediapersons seeking help for the campaign as the students did not get enough study leave for exam preparation and wanted to postpone them.
He also asked all students to e-mail a complaint to the education minister on the matter. A letter written by Jishnu to the education minister to postpone the exam has also come out. Jishnu was instrumental in gathering the students for the protest which angered the management. He committed suicide allegedly following the brutal mental and physical torture by the college authorities.
