Malappuram: After drawing nationwide attention and forcing fellow party men to get on the defensive, the BJP candidate in Malappuram LS by-poll, N. Sreeprakash, has backtracked on his promise of providing Halal beef given a chance. BJP stands for banning cow slaughter. Since there was no such a law in the state its sale could not be stopped, Sreeprakash told a TV channel during his campaign on Monday.
His promise of quality beef in Malappuram on Saturday had drawn flak from his party leaders. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan, who is currently campaigning for him here, said the beef issue was raised to divert attention from the real problems. Both the LDF and UDF are united on nepotism, and corruption, he added.
