15K new voters sign up in Cantonment area

HYDERABAD: Around 15,000 new voters are set to be integrated into the Secunderabad Cantonment’s electoral rolls, in a drive for roll revision that ended on Saturday at 5 pm. The names will be added to the 1.32 lakh strong electorate, as per September 2022 figures, officials said.

An SCB official said that the new additions were larger than normal. Eight teams, each comprising senior SCB officials, assisted applicants to enrol while two employees each were deployed on Thursday in every ward, to receive requisitions from the public.

J. Ramakrishna, an SCB member, said that the enrolment process proved helpful to aspiring office-bearers too. “They got people in favour of them to register,” he said.

Another official said that it was almost like a mini election campaign.

Twenty-six-year-old Shriya Gupta said more job opportunities and better cultural spaces and innovation are what will be on her mind when she chooses her candidate. “Most of the IT jobs are concentrated elsewhere. We definitely need more of that,” she said.

Another young voter said he's looking forward to the SCB-GHMC merger that will help developmental works in the area.

On March 6, SCB would invite objections on the inclusions, hear the objections on March 14, 15 and 16 between 10.30 am and 2.30 pm. On March 23, the final draft of the voter's enrolment would be declared.
