Thalassery District Court in heritage circuit
KANNUR: Thalassery has a lot to celebrate about in the state budget presented by Finance Minister Dr T.M Thomas Isaac. Apart from including the Thalassery District Court in the heritage conservation circuit, Rs 25crore has been allocated for the development of the Court. A High Court model building is envisaged at the place. At present, most of the buildings at the Court campus were made during the British Raj. During that time, Thalassery was the judicial headquarters of the erstwhile Malabar district in Madras Presidency.
During Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's term as MLA, the Court was included in the Heritage Project and a plan was drawn for a six-storied building. The Present MLA, A.N Shamseer's interventions were also crucial in getting funds for the Heritage project. Apart from that, Thalassery was also included in the Spices Route project and '20 crore has been allocated for it. Malabar Cancer Centre will receive Rs 35 crore and Thalassery-Kuthuparamba Drinking Water Project has been allocated Rs 25 crore.
Chirakkara Government Higher Secondary School and Kathiruru GHSS will be raised to centres of excellence. Kizh-akkumkara-Ummanchira Mini Regulator-cum-bridge will get '20 crore, a long pending demand. Thalayi Harbour, which is nearing completion, will get Rs 3.5 crore. In Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's constituency Dharmadam., a total of Rs 50 crore has been allotted for Prapram regulator and an ITI has been promised.
