Rs 240 crore boost for Cochin University of Science and Technology

The decision has been taken based on a detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Cusat.

KOCHI: The academic fraternity at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is elated as an amount of Rs 240 crore has been earmarked in the state budget to elevate Cusat into a Centre of Excellence in Academics and Research with the main focus on establishing state-of-the art research laboratories utilizing funds mobilized through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The decision has been taken based on a detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Cusat.

“The proposed laboratory will cater to scientists and researchers not only from the country but from around the world and will facilitate inter-disciplinary research in various subjects in cutting edge technologies. It will also cater to the research and development needs of the chemical, engineering and other industries in Kochi,” said Dr J. Letha, Vice-Chancellor of the university. The DPR submitted by Cusat for Rs 243 crore visualises an academic complex to boost research quality and academic output, besides establishing world class laboratories. “Development of campus infrastructure at par with global standards, ensuring the services of experts globally and enhancement of the quality of campus life are the major thrust areas of the DPR apart from R&D,” Dr. J.Letha said expressing her gratitude to the government for its unstinted support to Cusat in realizing its dream of becoming a topclass university.
