Opposition wants Finance minister T M Thomas Isaac fired
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has demanded that finance minister T. M. Thomas Isaac be sacked and a new finance minister appointed. Opposition leaders who met the Governor requested him to take the necessary steps as it was the first incident in the history of Kerala. “Since the budget has been leaked it should be cancelled and a new finance minister should be appointed. It is a serious lapse on the part of Dr Isaac and he has to resign,” Mr Chennithala told reporters after meeting the Governor. The opposition leader said Dr. Isaac’s claim that only the highlights have been leaked had no merit as it has affected the sanctity of the document.
He expressed the hope that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will take the initiative to oust him. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy and leaders of other allied parties who accompanied Mr Chennithala also clamoured for Dr Isaac’s ouster. Kerala Congress (M) chairman K. M. Mani and his party MLAs also called on the Governor demanding Dr Isaac’s ouster. He said it was for the first time in the history of the state that the budget details have been leaked before it was fully presented. He too demanded that Dr Isaac step down and a new finance minister present a new budget.
