Hyderabad: The first woman bus driver Varkya Saritha from Yadadri district and working with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is seeking a job in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
The 32-year-old woman driver from Samsthan Narayanapuram in yadadri district joined as a driver in Delhi RTC three years back on contract basis. She was named the first woman bus driver in the country.
Earlier, she worked as cab driver in Delhi. She has received awards and rewards from the DTC for her extraordinary services. She was also given the prestigious Woman Achiever award by Ms. Kiran Bedi.
On Friday, Saritha met Telangana transport minister P. Mahender Reddy seeking an opportunity to work for the TSRTC. Responding to her request, the minister promised her to provide an opportunity based on her qualifications in upcoming recruitment. He also promised her if she wills, the government will assist financially to get a cab under ‘She-Cabs’ policy.
