Mahmood Ali inaugurates twin Dairy and Food expos

HYDERABAD: Home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali on Friday inaugurated twin expos on Dairy and food, featuring dairy products, processing and packaging. The expo saw 105 exhibitors showcasing their products and services. The minister was accompanied by Soma Bharath Kumar, chairman of the TS Dairy Development Cooperative Federation (TSDDCF).

The three-day expo at Hitex in Madhapur is expected to witness the participation of 7,500 visitors from 10 am to 6 pm.

The second edition of the expos was organised by Media Day Marketing in support of FTCCI, the state government, the Union agriculture ministry and and MSMEs.

Minister Mahmood Ali said that milk is a wholesome food consumed worldwide and an expo on the dairy and food industry was much needed.

Bharath Kumar recalled how Vijaya Dairy, once on the verge of shutting down, was doing well and achieved Rs.700 crore turnover. He said Hyderabad needed one crore litre of milk every day, but the production was up to 70 lakh litres. "We are planning to introduce two lakh milch animals which will enable additional production of about 6 to 8 lakh litres," he said.

Bharath Kumar said 100 animal medical ambulances had been made available, with a toll-free number 1962.

When asked about measures the federation was taking to stop milk produced by using oxytocin injections (used to secure higher yield), Bharath Kumar said the milk was checked during procurement for adulteration. If adulterated milk is detected, the entire lot is abandoned, he said.
