Hyderabad: Techie receives spoof mails from police
Hyderabad: Cyber crooks spoofed the emails of senior police officials and sent threatening emails to a software employee. The crooks also sent emails to another police official and the victim’s employer informing that he has cases booked against him asking for his information.
The 35-year-old Rakesh Kumar (name changed), a resident of Champapet works as a software engineer in a US-based company and was receiving emails from two unknown IDs which contained his wife’s morphed pictures and vulgar language.
On December 12, Rakesh said that his employer received an email from dcp_cz.hydpol.gov.inn@mail.com.
The email said that a case was registered against Rakesh and the investigating team sourced that he is an employee of the company asking to share more information about himself. The next month, an email was sent to the office of East Zone DCP from a person claiming to be Rakesh’s wife. The sender stated that Rakesh’s parents were starving her and her son for the last two days and harassing them for dowry. A senior police official said: “A complaint has been received and efforts to trace the location and identity of the accused.”
