Take staff on board on Kerala Administrative Service, Oommen Chandy tells State

The Action council which has been agitating peacefully since past 38 days has decided to intensify the agitation in the coming days.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday urged the government to take employees’ organisations into confidence on the issue of Kerala Administrative Service (KAS). He was inaugurating the secretariat march of Secretariat Action Council against KAS. The former chief minister said that his government had constituted a Cabinet subcommittee to discuss all aspects of the KAS and the process had not been completed. However, the present government brought it in a haste.

Chandy said now that the Administrative Reforms Commission was in place, all aspects related to KAS should be looked into by the panel. Action council leader Sreekumar said the former chief minister was in favour of keeping secretariat staff out of the KAS. The Action council which has been agitating peacefully since past 38 days has decided to intensify the agitation in the coming days.

It demanded that the entire matter related to KAS be sent to ARC headed by former chief minister V. S. Achuthanandan for detailed examination and to study its ramification on the existing employees of different departments. The action council alleged that the government was forming KAS by picking people from here and there. There was no concrete proposal on creating new posts.
