Business owners cry foul as SCB seals establishments

SCB issues notices to the owners and not to the tenants, and when the property owners don't pay, SCB seals the rented or leased properties.

Hyderabad: Sealing of commercial business premises by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board for non-payment of property tax is not fair to them, say the owners of the businesses. They have rented the premises and pay their rent on time; it is the owners of the property who fail to pay property tax to the SCB.

The SCB issues notices to the owners and not to the tenants, and when the property owners don’t pay, the SCB seals the rented or leased properties. So far 39 shops have been sealed in Tadbund and Bowenpally on January 31 and February 2. NBS My Manpower Sources Pvt Ltd is one of the victims.

N B Suresh, managing director of the company, said the notice regarding overdue property tax was addressed to S Hanumanth Reddy, who is the owner of plot no. 31, Sanjeevaiah Nagar colony, Tadbund, Secunderabad.

“We are nowhere concerned. We are just tenants and operating the business and holding all the required government statutory requirements,” he said.
