SC Disposes of PIL on Barrage Project

Kurnool: Supreme Court has disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by petitioner Kamani Venugopal Reddy pertaining to construction of a bridge-cum-barrage across the Krishna River instead of the proposed cable-stayed suspension bridge proposed by the central government.

The bridge connects Kollapur in Telangana with Nandikotkur in Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh.

Justices Surya Kanth and K.V. Viswanath heard the PIL in the Supreme Court. SC advocate-on-record D. Siva Rami Reddy represented the petitioner.

The apex court acknowledged the agricultural concerns of Rayalaseema.

However, it cited its limitations in dealing with inter-state water disputes due to a lack of technical expertise.

Consequently, the court dismissed the writ petition, while granting the petitioner the liberty to pursue their cause before the appropriate governments.
