Chikkamagaluru college student bags 13 gold medals in BE exams
BELAGAVI: Sachin Keerthi of Adichunchangiri Institute of Technology Chikkamagaluru has topped the state in BE examinations conducted by Visvesvaraya Tehnological University (VTU) in 2017 and bagged 13 gold medals.
Governor Vajubhai Vala will present gold medals to the topperS at the 17th annual convocation of VTU, scheduled for January 9 in Belagavi.
Sachin secured first rank and highest marks in BE Civil Engineering, highest marks among the rank holders in any branch of BE, highest aggregate marks in all eight semesters and highest marks among students of engineering colleges affiliated to VTU.
Four other students who topped the BE examinations in their respective branches will be given five gold medals each. They are, Prathyusha. A, from BNM Institute of Technology Bengaluru, for having secured first rank in BE Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bindhu S. from Shirdi Sai Engineering College Bengaluru for having secured first rank, highest marks in aggregate in last four semesters in BE (E and C), Rajat Hogarti from KLE Sheshgiri College of Engineering and Technology Belagavi for having secured first rank, highest marks in BE (Mechanical), K.S. Arpitha from Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda College of Engineering Sullia for having secured first rank and highest marks in final BE (Computer Science Engineering).
Girls top medals tally
Of the 25 BE toppers who bagged gold medals in different branches, 16 are girls. They are M.S. Nandashree, Lakshmi Shree, Hema Hariharan, Prathiksha Prabhu, Arpitha K.S., Bindhu S., Prathyusha A., Sinchana H.R., Gouri Killekar, Ashwini M.L., Apoorva Sharma, Parimi Phanikumar, Namrutha Dev, Srinidhi V. S., Soujanya P. and Ruthusha Nagaraj.
The convocation will be held at Jnanasangama campus of VTU and Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy will also be present.
Prof Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education, will be the chief guest and deliver convocation address.
Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) will be conferred on Padma Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation and Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group.
VTU will confer as many as 61,790 BE degrees, 384 B. Arch, 4,592 MBA, 2,741 MCA, 4,347 M. Tech., 15 M. Arch., 20 M.Sc (Engg.) degrees at the convocation. This year VTU will also award PhD degrees to 302 research scholars.
55 MTech toppers to get medals
Visveswaraya Technological University will present gold medals to 55 toppers of M.Tech who have secured highest marks in their chosen branches during the examinations conducted by the university in 2017.
Among all M.Tech toppers, Ganavi.S from SJBIT Bengaluru has secured a highest of 89.42 per cent marks in Structural Engineering, followed by Pooja Prasad from Government Engineering College Hassan, who secured 89.17 per cent in Construction Engineering.
Varsha Srinivas from RNS Institute of Engineering Bengaluru topped the MBA examinations by scoring 81.15 per cent, while Namratha from Shree Devi Engineering College Mangaluru secured a highest of 84.64 per cent to top the MCA examinations.
Anna Poulose from R.V. College of Architecture Bengaluru topped the M.Arch examinations scoring 71.71 per cent. According to VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Karisiddappa, 61.790 students out of 84.140 who appeared for BE/B.Tech examinations have passed (73.44 per cent pass). As far as boys/girls ratio of pass percentage goes, 38,993 out of 57,227 boys passed, while 22,797 out of 26,913 girls have passed.
