Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, said that the state government had stood by disabled people and had set an example for the country. Towards this, the state has been bestowed awards by the Union government.
Rao said the government had created a department for the welfare of disabled as a special wing independent of the women and child welfare department.
He said the state government was providing Rs 3,016 as monthly pension to every disabled person in every family, against Rs 500 in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from 2BHK and Dalit Bandhu schemes, the government had earmarked five per cent reservation in other schemes and four per cent in job recruitment. Rao said that coaching and study material were being provided free of cost to disabled students for competitive exams.
"The government is making efforts to remove all obstacles faced by the disabled in their daily life by providing wheelchairs, three-wheeler scooties and crutches," Rao said.
