Public carps at waste dumping in Palakkad
Palakkad: People from all walks of life who attended a public meeting summoned by the district administration in Palakkad expressed the view that all those who dumped waste in public places needed to be acted against stringently.
The meeting held at the District Panchayat Hall on Friday was organized as a part of Haritha Keralam project which is being implemented in association with Nava Kerala Mission. The meeting was attended by District Panchayat President K Santakumari, District Collector P Marykutty, district planning officer Eliyamma Ninan among others took part.
The public who attended the meeting conveyed to the officials that along with creating awareness, those who dumped waste and burned plastic should be punished. The other suggestion that emerged in the meeting was that with the participation of one each from a family, bypasses, canals, ponds, public wells in a particular locality needed to be cleaned up. It emerged in the meeting that those interested in organic farming would be given land on lease, manure and seed at nominal rates.
All households needed to be given support to start organic farming and treatment of waste at source, it was decided. As a part of the Haritha Keralam Project, all members who are associated with 400 libraries and Kudumbasree units would be given training to implement schemes related to organic farming and decentralized waste management, officials of the district administration said at the meeting.
